- One Fine Day With Bestfriends -

April 29, 2019 0 Comments

January 3rd, 2019. My friends and I have an appointment to meet. My friend name is Dewi and Tammy. I am a student in Jakarta and so is Dewi. But not with Tammy. She was a student in Malang, East Java. Tammy went home to Jakarta due to being off to the College and would like to celebrate the new year in Jakarta. We're all friends since high school.

The Transjakarta

We decided to go to the Nasional Monument (also known as Monas). I've been to the Monas before and too lazy to go there. But Dewi never go there and Tammy is not either. So I follow their wishes. We went there using public transportation, the Transjakarta. Go to Monas using Transjakarta take as long as 1 hour.

The National Monument

The National Monument Area

Wara-Wiri

Until at Monas, the weather was very hot and a lot of visitors. Because of the hot weather and the gate to the entrance Monas far enough, we decided to drive Wara-Wiri. Monas entrance ticket is Rp 15,000 to get to the top of Monas, while Rp 5,000 to get to the cup only. I don't want go to the top and neither does Dewi, because they have a very long queue. But Tammy forced us. Finally we bought a ticket to the top of Monas. We waited about a half hour. The sidelines waiting, we entered the base of the monument to see historical dioramas in Indonesia. Many visitors come from outside Jakarta. There are also several groups of elementary school.

The View From Top

After looking around, we returned to the queue to go up to the top of the Monas. We entered the elevator which was only enough for 8 people. Arriving at the top, we were greeted with a very strong wind. Even to open your eyes is quite difficult. Dewi was stunned to see the scenery from the top of Monas and Tammy too. We went around admiring the beauty of the city of Jakarta from the top and capturing it with our mobile camera. We can see the Istiqlal Mosque, National Palace, the National Library, Train Station etc. from above. 15 minutes later we decided to go back downstairs, because there were already many visitors going up. We rested for a while in the cup area while chatting, releasing longing for not having met for a year.

City Tour Bus

Dewi told me that she had boarded a city tour bus. I really want to ride the city tour and so does Tammy. Incidentally in front of Monas there is a bus stop to take the city tour. Finally we left Monas and went to the bus stop. We waited 5 minutes and city tour bus arrived. We sat on the second floor of the bus. And touring the Monas, Senayan, Old Town etc. After that we went back down at the Monas stop and went home by Transjakarta again. Today is very exhausting. But this is very fun. Many new experiences that we get today. We also plan to explore Jakarta further on our next visit.

Task 1 (Affirmative Agreement)
Direction: supply the correct form of the verb for the simple statement in each of the following sentences. Elaborate your reason.

Reason : Affirmative Agreement (single verb except be) + and + [subject + do,does, did + too] and use does because the subject is he.

2. They will leave at noon, and I will too.

Reason :  Main clause there is a composite verb (auxiliary + verb = will leave).

3. Their plane is arriving at nine o’clock, and so is mine.

Reason : There is only "to be" in the main clause, the same tenses from "to be" are used in the second clause.

4. I should go grocery shopping this afternoon, and so should my neighbour.

Reason :  “should” because main clause there is a composite verb (auxiliary + verb = should go)

5. Our English teacher loves to travel, and so do we.

Reason :  "do" because Affirmative Aggrement (single verb) + and + {subject + do,does, did + too} and use do because the subject is we.

Task 2 (Negative Agreement)
Direction: fill in the blanks with the correct form of either or neither. Elaborate your reason.

1. The children shouldn’t take that medicine, and neither should she.
Reason : "neither" because the second clause "should"

4. Mary can’t type well, and her sister can’t either.
Reason : "either" because the second clause "can't"

5. They won’t have to work on weekends, and we won’t either.
Reason : "either" because the second clause "won't"

Task 3
Direction: identify the one underlined word or phrase that would not be acceptable in standard written English. Elaborate your reason.

1. He isn’t driving to the convention in March, and neither they are.

Correct Answer : He isn’t driving  to the convention in March, and either they are.
Reason : because the sentence is single sentence, so it comes to be either they are not neither they are.

2. Catherine is studying law at the university, and so does John.

Correct Answer : Catherine is studying law at the university, and so is John.
Reason : because there is only "to be" in the main clause, the same tenses from "to be" are used in the second clause

3. Because they have moved away, they hardly never go to the beach anymore.

Correct Answer : Because they have moved away, they hardly ever go to the beach anymore.
Reason : ever can be used in an affirmative sentence with not as an alternative to the more usual 'never'.

4.  Mary and her sister studied biology last year, and so does John.

Correct Answer : Mary and her sister studied biology last year, and so did John.
Reason : because in the main clause there is V3 (studied) so the correct answer should "so did John".

5. George has not completed the assignment yet, and Maria hasn’t neither.

Correct Answer : George has not completed the assignment yet, and Maria hasn’t either.
Reason : because after subject followed by negative auxiliary/be must be followed by either
